anyone who’s followed maurice aymard’s galaktika label over the years will be all too aware of the imprint’s leaning toward eclectic sounds. it’s an ethos that mirrored in the work of aymard himself and regardless of whether he’s turning his hand to tech house sounds or more straight-up techno jams, his is a way of working that’s endeared him to many over the years. his latest is a case in point. the 75th chapter in the galaktika discography, the into the night ep serves up an array of sounds that are enticing as they are upbeat and intriguing. getting us underway is the sounds of the title track. an unfurling beast of a track that’s loaded with dramatic tension throughout, it’s an eerie cut that’s characterised by its clever bells and some incessant percussion. a full on track that’s not to be handled lightly, it’s repetitive nature and sporadic vocal charms is indicative of levon vincent at his best. ‘shinning’, a more progressive cut, follows after. another track that’s notable for the suspense that lingers throughout, it serves up a nice stylistic alternative to what’s arrived before. aymard then goes all out on the frankly astounding sounds of ‘rage’. a propulsive gem of the type that sees the producer greatly rewarded for trying something that bit different, it’s a special sort of track that takes on various tones throughout but always stays captivating. seeing us out soon after is eduardo de la calle’s remix of the latter. the cadenza man is well versed in all things deep and dextrous, and his interpretation serves up a fitting example of his talents. although it starts on a melodic tip, it too soon brings the listener on a thoroughly captivating but unexpected journey. much like the rest of this ep, de la calle’s remix is full of surprises from the off.

suns out, guns out: darkroom dubs ease into 2018 slowly with a new addition to their limited vinyl series courtesy of madrid analogue scientist eduardo de la calle. last spotted on planet e and boasting a 15 year back-cat on the likes of cadenza, biologic, just this, hivern discs and mule muziq, eduardo is a man you’re already well acquainted with. and you’re going to want to get even closer once you’ve digested these four straight-to-business stripped-back traxx. each cut designed for deep mix tailoring that you can really bend minds with.

2017 saw cesar merveille & ryan crosson deliver their second long player in the shape of cerulean, drawing on their modern classical, jazz, ambient and abstract influences to create yet another unique listen featuring collaborations with a classical pianist, trumpet, guitar and double bass players. here we see those original parts eschewed into something entirely fresh from friends and close associates of the duo. leading on the release is cadenza boss lucianos sous le sol interpretation of arp, which twists and turns through the hypnotic chimes and emotive piano chords of the original whilst stirring in luciens signature modulating and intricately evolving rhythmic style. following is a collaborative rework from new yorks phil moffa and seth troxler which employs ethereal synth drones and stuttering vocal cuts alongside a bumpy percussive drive and pulsating subs. perlons bruno pronsato steps up next to remix even tides, delivering his typically raw and emotive style via glitched out, mind-bending percussion, elongated bass drones and cleverly reshaped cuts of the originals cinematic elements. l.as clovis then closes the package with his remix of nordic bummers, employing shuffled hats, lumpy subs and crunchy claps at its core whilst horn swells and aiy atmospherics ebb and flow throughout.

desolats loco dice joins the roster of martinez brothers cuttin headz label this april with slammer, backed with a remix from detroit techno veteran dj t-1000. du&#776,,sseldorfs loco dice has long been one of the most respected figures in contemporary electronic music with releases over the years on leading labels like cocoon, cadenza, ovum and of course his own desolat as well as a heavy touring schedule taking him across the globe year in year out. here though we see dice offering up his new single courtesy of cuttin’ headz, a platform the martinez brothers and associates to deliver high octane, dance floor focused house and techno. the original mix of title track slammer leads with spiralling brass like bass tones, flute licks, shuffled shakers and resonant synth hooks running alongside a bumpy bass line and an amalgamation of heady, processed vocal lines. following is detroits dj t-1000 stepping up on remix duties, stripping back the aesthetic of the original to lay focus on robust rhythms and various vocal refrains from the original whilst chugging bass and tension building atmospherics gradually unfold throughout.

azimute, das sind cesare marchese und der einigen techno-insidern nicht unbekannte schweizer philippe quenum. was die beiden zusammen fabrizieren lässt uns tatsächlich sprachlos zurück: obwohl sie gerade mal auf sieben releases zurückblicken, haben die zwei es doch tatsächlich geschafft in kürzester zeit auf labels wie crosstown rebels oder sogar transmat zu landen… und jetzt auch noch den weg auf cocoon recordings gefunden! ihr titel „the secret“ gibt ein wenig vor, was wir gerade beschrieben haben, denn momentan kann man azimute noch wirklich als geheimtipp bezeichnen. ihr cocoon release dürfte einer unserer releases mit dem höchsten soul-faktor sein. betörende vocals, klackernde percussion-sounds aus den untiefen des techno-klanguniversums und im zusätzlichen house-mix noch mal alles mit warmen und hypnotischen filter chords dekoriert servieren uns azimute eine produktion mit unglaublich viel tiefgang. azimute erwischt uns hier voll auf dem richtigen fuß, die beiden originalversionen werden uns noch lange über die kommenden wochen begleiten. als bonus gibt es noch einen cristi cons remix obendrauf. in bester villalobos oder cadenza spielart entfaltet dieser über sage und schreibe 11 minuten und 34 sekunden seinen minimalvibe und öffnet damit noch mal eine weitere faszinierende musikalische tür. drei versionen, die alles aber nicht gewöhnlich sind und die hier seit tagen in heavy rotation laufen! mile grazie azimute!

the ninth installment on tabla records comes from none other than dj/producer, multi-instrumentalist and sound engineer, alexkid. the former parisian turned berliner is without a doubt one of the most respected producers in the game. his stripped back, elegant and dubby sound-constructions have previously found their way on to labels such as desolat, fuse, cadenza and underground quality. now alexkid has supplied tabla records with two of these very unique tunes. his reset-ep shows the kids preferences for the dubbier and deeper sides of electronic music. both originals - fu-man-chu and reset - are delightfully bass driven. london based archie hamilton - owner of moscow records and key member of fuse london - rounds up this three-track-ep with an uplifting and stupendous remix, that can be described as a typical hamilton-groove.

in 1996 serotonin label heads selway and szostek went to moscow to perform at the invitation of &#1055,&#1058,&#1070,&#1063, magazine. synapse performed at the -waterclub- and met the legendary dj compass vrubell. they went to his -studio- where he had perfected the art of making entire tracks out patterns on the yamaha dx-5. szostek brought a dat of these jams back to nyc and schmer-003 dj rx-5 -a taste for crap- was released as a small run white label in 97. the run sold out and disappeared to be forgotten forever... until 2016 szostek casually mentions its existence to techno uber-nerd nina kraviz who just had to have it for her -fabric 91- cd. so dj rx-5 was back from the ash heap of history and schmer got a new release from him on schmer07. then schmer got the word out far and wide that they d like a remix ep for two of the originals: compass provided stems because like a miracle he still had the patterns after 20 years. heeding the call were pointsman, tripmastaz, steve stoll and schmer s own bpmf. so this is what you get: -a taste for remix-. it will leave your lips wanting more, for sure!

long time friends cesar merveille and ryan crosson return to visionquest to reignite their ‘merveille & crosson’ project in late may with three fresh, intricately programmed cuts. visionquest boss ryan crosson and parisian cesar merveille need no introductions, with the duo’s back catalogues featuring material on the likes of revered imprints cadenza, desolat, little helpers and mdrnty. 2011 welcomed the introduction of their ‘merveille & crosson’ project, with their debut album ‘drm’ on visionquest gaining plaudits from industry heavyweights including ricardo villalobos, and after a five years absence here we see the duo return once again to deliver ‘dream state’, a three track ep that oozes quality from the off. the a side is home to title cut ‘dream state’, a production that tumbles and twists smoothly around meandering synths, crisp percussion shots and a bumping low ends, typical of the duos free flowing and evolving production styles. on the flip, ‘guns’ sets to work through pitched down vocal loops, sweeping sonics and rich textures all reinforced by a driving bassline that carries plenty of groove, before ‘time contraints’ slowly unveils itself with a series of off-kilter gliches and pops, delicate pads and sophisticated sound arrangement, concluding yet another fluent and immersive offering from merveille & crosson, and an excellent addition to the visionquest catalogue.

multi talented uk jazz pianist greg foat has teamed up with mercury award nominated the bees member and multi instrumentalist warren hampshire to collaborate on a new lp drawing on their diverse musical influences. classic british library music, 60s italian soundtracks & lost americana combined with touches of modern classical, minimalism, jazz and folk. featuring many members of greg and warren s previous bands and one of the u.ks finest jazz drummers, clark tracy, the lp also features an edinburgh orchestra and soloists hand picked and scored by the boys. recorded all analogue onto 2-multitrack in edinburgh, mixed down by mattias glava at his studio in gothenburg, sweden then mastered and cut in helsinki, finland, it s truly a european affair flying in the face of the brexit nightmare. release june 2017

vinyl only, ahead of their collaborative album later this year, pier bucci and oskar szafraniec present their first sampler titled tipico latino featuring a remix by el_txef_a. emerging in the mid 00 s, chilean producer pier bucci first appeared on cadenza with a release alongside luciano himself before dropping multiple releases on crosstown rebels, including his acclaimed album familia . since then he s appeared on get physical and rawax, not to mention launching maruca music - a platform for his own music featuring heavyweight remixers such as baby ford and thomas melchior. szafraniec has been producing under different monikers since 13 years old, releasing two solo albums, recording alongside a guy called gerald in 2012/2013, and touring as a live performer. as oskar szafraniec his production debut was a collaboration alongside ricardo villalobos two years ago, but since then he s appeared on murge recordings and cyclo, as well as collaborating with pier bucci on rawax, who oskar met whilst touring japan tipico latino features gloomy spanish vocals as intricate elements are brought in and out of the mix across its nearly nine-minute duration. subtle throbs and echoing effects are blended with metallic percussion and deep synths for a wistful and mesmerising aesthetic. forbidden colours founder el_txef_a, whose remix talents have been recruited by permanent vacation, galaktika, akbal and culprit, reimagines the original providing a drawn out intro before exploding into a frenzy of crashing cymbals, animated acid and serene vocal moans.

with over 25 years in the game, andré galluzzi can respectfully be awarded the veteran badge of honour. a mark of experience and longevity for an artist who has, as they say, been there and done it all. today howeversees the german take on a new adventure, with his debut release for josh winks ovum recordings. as a dj, andré has held residencies at three of germany and the worlds most influential clubs - tresor, ostgutand berghain. been the driving force behind his own we play vinyl party. managed his own taksi (along side paul brtschitsch) and aras record labels and featured his own music on such highly acclaimed imprints as cocoon, cadenza, ostgut ton and highgrade. back in 2001, having released his seminal mix compilation, ‘im garten’, andré embarked on a new series of events that regularly saw him play intoxicating sets of up to 10-hours. the parties went by the name of submerge and those infamous dj sets have inspired his beautiful brace for ovum today. the metronomic kick drum of the title track introduces us to its immersive groove, whilst bubbling and elasticated fx vie for our attention, adding a sublime swing to submerge. on the flip, bold, by name and nature, ups the swing ante with its fierce acidic melody, shimmering hats and rasping snare. support from: josh wink, pan pot, joris voorn, dj hell, huxley, doc martin, till von sein, anja schneider, &me, catz n dogz and more!
